Unlike major chain diner-style restaurants like “Denny’s”, where you either need to be drunk off your ass or be literally starving to enjoy a meal there, there’s a quaint little diner that you might want to visit while being fully conscious.  If you enjoy the occasional grub at a diner and you want some quality food that is worth your while, then stop by “The Kettle” in Manhattan Beach, a 24-hour diner that serves some bomb food a buenos precios.

While “The Kettle” might appear to be your typical diner, there’s a little something that makes it unconventional, and that, aside from the food, is the service.  Even though many don’t put much thought into it, customer service at a restaurant can either make or break a place.  If the place serves good food but the service is horrible, odds are you’re not going back there regardless of how yummy the food was… ahora, si el servicio es bueno así como la comida, it’s a win-win situation.

Although “The Kettle” is a medium-sized restaurant, it still has that hole-in-the-wall homeliness and coziness to it.

Go for breakfast, stay for lunch

For years, “The Kettle” has been Manhattan Beach’s diner du jour. Locals love this place and rightfully so. The breakfast served at “The Kettle” will blow your mind.  No importa que ordenes, it’s almost a guaranteed hit.

the kettle orange zest muffinIf you like to start the day with a light meal, there’s nothing a home-made muffin can’t fix.  They’re made fresh from scratch every day; not only that, but they’re also made with high quality ingredients, and a secret recipe that even Sarah Lee and the Dough Boy would kill for.  While many agree that the honey oat muffin is one of the best ones at “The Kettle”, if you want to be impressed and have a hell of a muffin, then you should try the “Orange Zest Muffin”… the moist bread and hints of orange are beyond tasty, well worth the caloric intake.

Now, if you’re craving more of a hearty meal, then the “broccoli cheese soup” is a great way to begin.  The broccoli is fresh and cooked to perfection, not soggy and not crunchy- just the perfect texture.  Esta sopa es quesosísima and has a nice flavor to it thanks to the various cheeses used to prepare it.  You can’t miss it, its über creamy.

You can either follow that scrumptious soup with either a sandwich or a crab cake benedict… either way, you won’t be disappointed.

If you go for the sandwich, prepare yourself for sharing (or simply ask for a half) since they’re humongous and jam packed with delicious meat and toppings.  The Jonathan B. sandwich is one of the most popular sandwiches at this joint- not only is it humongous, but the meat is seasoned to perfection and the bread doesn’t sog, ergo you can calmly eat your sandwich in one piece without worrying about losing all your toppings at the first bite.

Another great choice for a “sandwich” Is the turkey burger. The turkey slices are cut to perfection, aside from being fresh, the kettle crab cake benedictthey’re nice and thin. Just like the Jon B. sandwich, the turkey burger comes with tons of toppings… you can definitely make a meal out of this sandwich.

In case muffins and sandwiches are not your forte, you can always order some eggs. You can go for the traditional scrambled eggs or you can be more adventurous and get the crab cake benedict: benedict eggs over scrumptious fresh crab cakes.  You’ll enjoy this dish even if you’re not a huge fan of crab cakes.

“The Kettle” is well worth the drive if you’re not close to Manhattan Beach… so don’t be lazy and make an evening out of it, the beach is just a few feet away from this adored diner.
