The Basics:  Friday nights have become an officially unofficial party-night.  While I enjoy trying new places and checking out new antros, Friday nights are usually reserved for my regular hang-out place and favorite club so far.  However, every night on our way to that certain club my friends and I drive through Hollywood Blvd. and every weekend night there’s a tremendous amount of people waiting to get in at “The Highlands”, but Fridays seemed to be busier than the rest of the weekend.  So last week we decided to check it out and see what the fuzz was all about.

As soon as we arrived we were completely overwhelmed by the amount of people waiting to get in.  Go figure- Grammy Award winner R&B singer/ producer Ne-Yo was set to perform that night.  After some text-messaging and a couple of phone calls one of our promoter friends was able to get us in without much hassle.

De entrada este antro will leave you with your eyes wide open.  The main dance floor looked huge even though it was jam-packed with people poppin’, lockin’ and droppin’ it like it was hot.

There are several dance floors, with a total of five (yes, five!) DJ’s spinning all night.  There’s music for all, Top 40, Hip-Hop, Electro, Dance, even some música en español- from salsa to reggaeton.

The HighlandsNow if you want to get your drink on and catch a nice buzz, you might want to get started elsewhere before coming to “The Highlands”. Not only are the drinks on the pricey side, but they are not strong enough.  They do taste good- especially the fruity drinks, but they don’t have that much alcohol in them… así que si necesitas alcohol to hit the dance floor you might need to skip the mixed drinks and take a shot instead.

Overall, the music and the ambiance were great, everybody seemed to be pumped up- whether it was the alcohol, the music or the fact that Ne-Yo was performing later that night… whatever it was, it gave “The Highlands” some club-cred… unlike other Hollywood posh clubs where people refuse to hit the dance floor with fear of sweating and messing up their look, people at “The Highlands” were seriously workin’ it.
