SkratchWhen it comes to sandwiches and fast food, your options are no longer limited to Subway and ToGo’s… that’s a thing of the past. Although there are a few hole-in-the-wall/ mom-and-pop sandwich joints, no en todos lugares preparan los sandwiches como Dios manda. If you have had a chance to try “Tender Greens”, you’ll fall in love with “Skratch”.  Even though they’re similar and they’re pretty close to each other, “Skratch” le come el mandado a “Tender Greens” en varios aspectos.  Their menu is as simple and basic as a menu can be, but whatever they serve they serve it right. Con un servicio al tiro and tasty food, “Skratch” is sure to be to sandwiches what “Pink’s” is to hot-dogs.

Straight to the point

skratchIdeally you would get your food to go since “Skratch” is a small joint that is usually crowded hasta el tope. Now if you can’t order take-out, the dine-in experience at “Skratch” can be a bit high-school.

Freshness is top priority at “Skratch”, proof of that can be seen in every single dish on their menu.

For example, all the fruits and vegetables are fresh and organic, the meat is hormone-free, y por si fuera poco, el pan para los sandwiches is fresh straight-out-of-the-oven from “La Brea Bakery”.

Lunch special all day long

Lo chido de los sandiwiches es que te saben igual de ricos a cualquier hora- it doesn’t matter if you have one for lunch or dinner, they usually do the trick… well, the sandwiches at “Skratch” do the trick and then some more, especially when they go hand in hand with a soup.

skratch pulled pork sandwichThe BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich is not only one of the most popular sandwiches at this joint, but it’s inevitable not getting one, most likely than not, there’s always someone ordering one… así que es fácil que se te antoje… trust your instinct and your nose and go for it. This sandwich comes with tender hand-pulled porked seasoned with spiced BBQ, topped with smoked Gouda cheese, sweet jicama slaw and honey poppy seed dressing- the different flavors mix surprisingly well, literally causing a party in your mouth.

The BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich goes down well with a Wild Mushroom Brie Soup- even if you’re not crazy about mushrooms, te gustará; this soup is so creamy it’s irresistible.

Now if you want something less bready por eso de los carbohidratos, entonces una buena opción is the Waldorf Turkey Wrap- simply sweet and savory comes with turkey breast, toasted walnuts, halved grapes, diced fennel hearts, bing cherries, apples… all tossed in a yogurt Crème Fraiche with baby field greens and a cranberry vinaigrette.

This wrap goes well with the Tomato Basil Bisque soup- fresh yet comforting, steamy and undeniably delicious… come to think of it, this soup could be a meal by itself.

Now, one thing you must know before eating at “Skratch” is that their portions are rather small, in the end they’ll leave you satisfied, pero si eres de los que come hasta reventar, then you might leave hungry.

Regardless of the portion size, it’s still a good deal, especially taking into consideration the fact that the ingredients are fresh and of the best quality and that the food overall is top notch.

Si te quedan ganas de un postrecito, just get some of their chocolate chip cookies- yes, they’re home-made and oh so fresh.
