Aunque la cuaresma está a un pelito de llegar a su fin, nunca está de más dejar descansar al pollo and all kinds of red meat and just sit and enjoy a great meal filled with fish and shrimp. Just like “traditional” tasty carne- usually beef and pork- fish and shrimp taste even better when they’re in either tacos or burritos… leave it to us Latinos to turn everything and anything into a scrumptious tortilla-wrapped meal. Even though there are plenty of joints that serve tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tostadas y todo lo que te puedas imaginar with shrimp and fish, no en todos lugares los preparan chidos… there’s always something odd, something that could be better- well, that’s not the case at “Señor Baja” in Norwalk. If you want some badass yummy AND CHEAP fish and shrimp tacos, head over to this joint… it won’t disappoint one bit.
Unexpected
There’s really nothing fancy or special about “Señor Baja”… as a matter of fact, if you’re a local or you just happen to drive through Alondra Blvd. every once in a while, odds are you’ve never seen “Senor Baja” ya que se pierde entre los demás negocios… don’t be fooled by its faux anonymity though, this joint tends to get hella busy during lunch hour- which is exactly why it’s better if you avoid crashing this restaurant during work hours… it gets busy- way to busy.
But neither the folks at “Señor Baja” or the customers are to blame- todo es culpa de los tacos y del buen precio que tienen… every penny spent is well worth it, specially on Mondays and Wednesdays, when they have a .99¢ fish taco special.
Con todo
A simple vista, los tacos de pescado de “Señor Baja” se ven como los que te sirven en fast food places like “Baja Fresh”… however, you can’t judge a book by its cover, and neither can you judge a taco by its looks, so just wait until you take a bite to give your full verdict.
The tortilla they use for the tacos parece recién sacada de la tortillería y lo chido es que it’s not soggy at all, and the best part is, it stays like that for a while… you don’t have to rush eating your taco with the fear of having your tortilla disintegrate. Also the fish is fresh, the ouside is nice and crisp while the inside is well done without being overcooked and simply steamy and delectable- ahora si que es como los “M&Ms”: se derrite en tu boca, no en tus manos. The tacos are topped with fresh and organic coleslaw and a blend of Mexican style cream que le da un sabor único.
Another neat thing about “Señor Baja” is that they have a “Salsa Bar”, so there’s plenty of salsa to choose from… the green sauce is a must- it’s spicy enough to give your tacos that much needed kick.
The shrimp tacos are quite similar to the fish tacos. As a matter of fact, they are just like the fish tacos, la única diferencia es que llevan camarón empanizado instead of fish (duh!).
While the shrimp tacos are also good, if you really want to enjoy some shrimp, go for the shrimp burrito- not just any burrito with shrimp. At “Señor Baja” they serve you a hell of a mega shrimp burrito, they’re pretty generous with the shrimp serving… one burrito is more than enough for a full day’s meal.
Forget “Rubio’s” and “Baja Fresh”… if you want some real fish and shrimp tacos and burritos, head over to “Señor Baja”, you’ll seriously go bonkers!
