Regina’s Restaurant: Around the World in 80 Bites

By August 5, 2008Food & Drink

Regina's RestaurantHow many times have we heard “el que mucho abarca poco aprieta”?  Unfortunately for us, the majority of the time, this saying turns out to be true regardless of the circumstances. When it comes to food, ese dicho es más que cierto, however, there’s a restaurant en el condado de la naranja where they challenge this saying by boldly serving a little bit of everything: Argentinean food, Italian food, Greek food, and a wide variety of sandwiches.

One-trick pony

One thing you have to keep in mind when you go to Regina’s is that you can’t forget your appetite at home.  While the portions are just right, you’ll be overwhelmed by the number of choices and the affordable price that you’ll pretty much order a little bit of everything and before you notice you’ll have more than 6 different dishes in front of you.

Everything on the menu sounds good, looks good, and lucky for you and for us food lovers, it tastes good too.  So round up a bunch of friends that way you don’t feel like a fatty for ordering so many goodies.

Unlike other joints that attempt to serve more than one type of cuisine, Regina’s Restaurant is not a one-trick pony and can successfully pull off the items in their menu.  You won’t be disappointed.

Get it started

Regina's For starters, take it easy on the comp loaves of bread that are fresh off the oven and come with a serving of chimichurri- perhaps some of the tastiest in the area.

Instead of gorging on the bread and chimichurri, order some empanadas and a tortilla de papa.  The humita empanadas are a must, the ham and cheese are also a great choice; while the chicken and the beef empanadas were good, they were not memorable.

Now, the tortilla de papa will blow you away. Although it’s a pretty simple appetizer with very few and basic ingredients, its flavor comes out to be quite complex and irresistibly delicious.

But enough about appetizers.  You can’t go to Regina’s Restaurant and not have any kind of meat.  The skewers are quite popular and tasty, but if you want something more that will tickle your taste buds to the max, you must try their “entraña”- don’t be fooled by the gross-sounding name, you won’t regret it.

Now, if you feel like having pasta, the chicken stuffed with spinach and the cheese and ham ravioli will do the trick.  The chicken is just tender and juicy, and the home-made pasta is cooked and seasoned to perfection.

If you want something a little on the “light” side, you can choose from a variety of cold and hot sandwiches.

Endulzate la vida

Now, if you happen to have any room left, heck, even if you don’t, you can’t leave Regina’s Restaurant without trying their postres.

The flan is to die for, and the panqueques con dulce de leche are just sinful. However, the dessert highlight goes to their alfajor, which you can purchase by the box. Chances are you’ll be going back to Regina’s just to pick up a box of alfajor.

To get the whole Regina’s experience, you’ll need to come back more than once and try their many other delicacies.  If you’re into soccer, it’s a good joint during soccer season- Regina’s is the place to be.
