The Basics: Now that the summer is here, any reason is a good excuse to hit the beach. If you wanna stay away from ending up with sand inside your chones or you don’t really feel like doing the usual “beachy” stuff, yet you want to be close to the fresh breeze, fret no more, your new excuse to visit the beach without messing up your look is called “Mediterraneo”, a posh little tapas bar/ lounge.
The décor is simple and chic… there’s not much to it really, just your typical clean-cut dim lit lounge. “Mediterraneo”, also refered to by locals as “The Med” has a fabulous outside patio, perfect for sunny SoCal summer days.
If you’re gonna check out this joint, its better if you do during Happy Hour, which is Monday-Friday from 5-7pm, otherwise it might be on the expensive side. So if you go during their popular Happy Hour, and you do so on a Tuesday you’ll get even better deals- cheap drinks and two-for-one tapas.
What to drink: Lo chido de “Mediterraneo” es que they have a fully stocked bar. There’s all kinds of spirits, over 30 wines, and about 25 different kinds of beer on tap.
If you’re into beer (and even if you’re not into it), you’ll be amazed by their selection. However, if you must try something new, go for the Blanche de Brussels beer on tap- even though it’s the lightest beer they have, it’s quite tasty.
Now, if you’re craving a strong mixed drink, you can’t go wrong with the Ginger Lemon Mojito- with loads of rum, lemon, and just a hint of ginger, this drink is beyond refreshing… the perfect drink to sip on during a scorching hot day.
What to eat: Even though at “Mediterraneo” you’ll find a full dinner menu, the way to go is with their tapas. They have a wide selection of hot and cold tapas with a Mediterranean twist.
Tapas highlights include the tortilla española, spinachi con garbanzos, gambas, polpette, and the chorizo Bilbao. The tortilla española is a potato omelet with piquillos, mushrooms, fonina cheese, and garlic aioli. The spinachi con garbanzos is one of the crowd favorites, it has sautéed spinach, garbanzo beans, onions, and pine nuts. All the seafood aficionados go gaga over the gambas at “Mediterraneo”. The gambas are grilled black tiger shrimped sautéed and simmered on paprika oil. Polpettes are also a popular and tasy choice- Italian meatballs with spicy tomato sauce like you’ve never had them before. And last, but not least, the chorizo Bilbao will leave you wanting more: grilled Spanish sausage with grilled red grapes.
