La Farfala: The ultimate coffee house

By May 22, 2009Food & Drink

La Farfala CafeWhile there are many coffee shops giving Starbucks a run for their money, very few of them stray away from being a carbon copy of the coffee giant.  Sin embargo, existen unos cuantos that serve the classic coffees and fraps in addition to having unique items on their menu and a distinct style and setting at their joint.  One of those mom-and-pop cafes that are slowly but steadily becoming the talk of the town is “La Farfala Café” in none other than East Los Angeles.  Unlike chain coffee houses and other Starbucks wanna-bes, “La Farfala” se dedica a ofrecer buen café, some delicious food, scrumptious blended goodies, y un servicio de primera.

The service itself is enough to make you want to come back to “La Farfala”; it has that fondita feel to it, very cozy and comfortable.  Right away you feel like you’re at home and the staff makes you feel like familia. You’ll seriously feel as if you stopped by your Tia’s house to grab a quick bit on your way to your daily shenanigans.

Liquid bliss

Although it’s listed as a café/ coffe-house, “La Farfala” is not known for its coffee. Sure, they serve the typical cafecito recién hecho and stuff, but that is not their forte.

Las aguas frescas y los smoothies son lo más popular en este pequeño establecimiento.  Unlike other joints that serve “aguas frescas”, they don’t have gallons upon gallons of premade goodies… they prepare it upon request. One cup at a time.

El agua de avena is to die for. It gives horchata a run for its money- it is not too sweet yet it’s not bland whatsoever. Tiene un buen sabor y lo major de todo es que it’s truly, genuinely fresca.

También el agua de fresa y la de sandia will blow you away. They’re über fresh and oh so sweet.  No por nada “La Farfala” is considered to have the best aguas frescas in town.

Not only do they have tons of aguas frescas to choose from, but at “La Farfala” they also have a nice selection of fruit smoothies… hechos por supuesto 100% con fruta fresca y natura.  Also, they prepare some flavorful and creamy frappuccinos.

Not just coffee

quesadilla sincronizadaEven though ideally you might just want to stop by “La Farfala” for your daily coffee or frap fix, there’s more to this joint than drinks.  If you’re hungry (and even if you’re not), it’s awfully hard to resist the temptation of ordering something off of their menu: they have tortas, hot dogs, quesadillas y hasta ensaladas.

If you’re not too hungry, yet you would like something to munch on while you sip on your drink and talk about the latest chisme, there’s nothing better than a “quesadilla sincronizada”.

You won’t regret ordering this “sincronizada”… it’s seriously one of the best quesadillas ever. It comes with Queso Oaxaca, ham, tomato, onion, chile jalapeño, aguacate, and a side of Mexican sour cream.  Add to that deliciousness just a hint of salt and you have your self a hell of a “sincronizada”.

torta cubanaNow if you’re starving and y necesitas comer algo que calme tu apetito feroz, “La Farfala” has the perfect solution to your hunger: una “Torta Cubana”.

Con una “Torta Cubana” es suficiente para que se te llene el tanque. It comes with: ham, scrambled eggs, saussage, milanesa, queso fresco, lettuce, tomato, onion, and lots of chipotle.

Cabe mencionar que todos los ingredientes son frescos and everything is 100% natural, a excepción de los chiles jalapeños… other than that, you’re in for a fresh and tasty treat.

And talking about sweets y para cerrar con broche de oro, at “La Farfala” they have some bomb fruit cocktails y unos delicious biónicos.
