The basics: If you like to party and chill like a rock star, or something close to it, but you happen to be on a budget, partying in El Lay and Hollyweird is mos def outta the question… unless you wanna be crass. If you wanna still party hardy while remaining somewhat classy and enjoy pre-recession style, fret not! There’s a nice lil lounge in the OC that caters to all your party needs sin que te cueste un ojo de la cara. Se trata nada más y nada menos que de “Kimera” in Irvine.
While “Kimera” is one of those restaurant/ lounge combos, you might wanna visit this joint for the latter, since the food is on the expensive side. However, “Kimera” is a great place to lounge and stop by for drinks and tapas.
“Kimera” has a great atmosphere, which is significantly enhanced by its interesting and chic décor, filled with artwork on the earth-toned walls.
What to drink: If you’re into wine, don’t splurge on expensive wine just because of the brand… at “Kimera” they have a really good and smooth house wine that will soothe you and get you on a good one.
If mixed drinks are your thing, you can enjoy a rather sweet mango mojito- it has rum, mint, and mango nectar. Now, if you’re feeling adventurous go for the “Asiana” cocktail. Even though it’s sweet, you won’t know what hit you since the bartenders make it strong. This cocktail has vanilla vodka, pair, passion fruit and a hint of elderflower.
What to eat: “Kimera” offers a nice variety of tapas, from classic American and Italian to scrumptious tapas with an Asian flair. The awesome thing about this joint is that during Happy Hour, most tapas run for about $5.
If you’re into raw fish and stuff like that, the tuna tartar is a must. It has fresh tuna served on a crispy wonton bowl, with ground pepper, sesame seeds, all dressed with a flavorful and spicy soy sauce… además, it has avocado slices in the basin.
Now if that’s not your thing but you’re so over the typical fries and onion rings, at “Kimera” they have a bomb pizza. Order the “Margarita Pizza” and prepare to have your mind and your senses blown away… not bad at all for a bar pizza.
