The Basics: There are dive-bars practically everywhere.  One particular city that is known for its massive amount of dive-bars (other than Hollywood and the Downtown L.A. area) is Long Beach. You don’t think so? Just ask anyone you know that lives in the area and they’ll let you know about “their” bar, apparently there’s a bar and hang-out place per resident.  So if you’re into DL and chill places like those dive bars you know where to go.  So, what happens when you’re on the opposite side of the L.A. county (Highland Park to be exact) and don’t feel like dealing with the traffic?  For me and my buds it was either go back home or find us a place around the area and celebrate Wednesday night.

At a first glace (and third, and fourth, AND fifth), Highland Park seems to be one of those places you would rather not be when the sun comes down. Just like certain areas in South Central and East LA, Highland Park, especially at night it’s scarily reminiscent of México D.F. or somewhere along Cd. Neza to say the least.

Regardless of the surroundings we decided that our desire to chill while sipping on an Cadillac was stronger and worth the shot.  And so we came across “Footsies”, which we almost missed and kinda dissed, but either way, nos pusimos bien los pantalones and with pepper-spray in hand we ventured into unknown territory.

Fortunately for us, the place turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Definitely not what you would expect in such an area; while the place was small, it had a cozy and chill vibe to it that was more than comforting and welcoming.

Something that caught our eye was definitely the jukebox, which is according to the bartender quite popular at “Footsies”.  Although jukeboxes seem kind of old school, the music you’ll find in this one is beyond superb- filled with tons of indie, rock, alternative and even some Belle and Sebastian.
There’s also a pool table, and an outside patio perfect for the smokers and claustrophobics.

When it comes to the drinks, they’re moderately priced- not too cheap, not too expensive.  They are strong though.  If you’re into fruity drinks this is not the place to get your drink on, even the fruitiest and tame of them all comes out strong at “Footsies”.

“Footsies” tiene un solo “PERO”, while it’s a cozy dive-bar, the music is wee bit too loud to hold a conversation without borderline screaming.
