The Basics: When you think of Montebello the last thing that comes to mind is clubbing- there’s a mall, but that’s about it. Other than that, Montebello is just another drive-through city. While there are some clubs outside the Downtown L.A./ Hollywood area, they seem to lack that je ne sais quoi that makes other clubs so fly. There are a few that manage to deliver an acceptable clubbing experience regardless of their location. “QC’s 20/20” is one of those places. Now, I have been to “QC’s” several times, but all of them happened to be on a Friday, and it gets crazy. Now, Saturdays it’s a whole different story.
Surprisingly enough, “QC’s” is a decent venue- they shy away from the warehouse-turned-nightclub L.A. trend and actually make this place an old fashioned yet modern discotheque.
Although the crowd is mixed on Saturday night’s “Club Instinct”, it’s mostly an older crowd- and by older I mean late twenties through late thirties/ early forties. There are a few youngsters here and there, but that’s about it.
If you’re a single guy in search of a dance partner and/or some action, “Club Instinct” is the place to be. The girl-to-guy ratio is ridiculous. For every guy there are about five girls. The dance floor is literally covered by hordes of girls dancing with each other, a few couples, and more groups of girls dancing with one or two “token gays”.
The music is not all that really. There is no variety. It’s pretty much hip-hop, old school, a little bit of dance and a few Top 40 hits here and there. It can be fun for a bit, but after a couple of hours of the same thing it can get annoying.
Overall, it can be a fun experience if you don’t feel like driving all the way to L.A.- plus, you won’t spend that much on gas. The parking situation is all under control, $3 parking and plenty of parking space. The price for going in is a bit ridiculous though, $20 for guys is a tad overpriced for a not so fab club in Montebello- so guys if you’re paying that much for going in, you better make the best of it.
The drinks are not that bad actually, they have a pretty sweet Midori Sour and their Long Island Iced Teas are a must for those that want to get tipsy a.s.a.p.
