The Basics: Eso de tomar vino, la neta no se le da a todos… just like drinking beer or downing down tequila, it’s an acquired taste… and no, wine coolers don’t count as wine. Si eres nuevo en el arte de tomar vino, no te preocupes, the folks over at “City Sip” in Echo Park han venido a tu rescate with a wine instructional that will give you all the skinny on how to drink and enjoy wine along with several tastings, as well as food pairings. Now, if that’s not your thing, it’s also a great joint to just chill after work and take the edge of with a glass (or five) of artisan wine.
Lo unico gacho que tiene este lugar is the fact that it’s on the small side. Unfortunately it’s not good for big groups, unless you don’t mind being a little tight… otherwise, it’s perfect for a 1-on-1 evening.
What to drink: Obviously, wine is their forte over at “City Sip”, so their selection is beyond amazing… nothing starts the night better than a glass of Bordeaux though.
If you’re not feeling the wine y se te antoja una chela, también tienen una buena selección de cervezas. They have local California beer on tap from Telegraph Brewing and the North Coast Brewing Company… get your drink on AND support locals!
What to eat: The food selections are rather limited, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Even though they have paninis and salads, it all pretty much comes down to cheeses and charcuteries.
The staff at “City Sip” is beyond knowledgeable and can pair wine and food almost to perfection. So just trust them on their suggestions… no te arrepentirás.
You can build your own cheese plate choosing from over 10 gourmet cheeses (made from cow, goat, and sheep’s milk), and all cheese is accompanied by artisan breads, honey, almonds, and quince.
You can also get a Spanish chorizo plate, or a charcuterie combo that includes smoked salmon, trout and white anchovies with radish crème, caper berries, and rye crackers.
