The Basics: This joint is one of those places that seem to be just perfect to start off the night con el pie derecho: a can’t-miss location in the center of The Block, tons of indoor and outdoor sitting, a fully stocked bar, and tapas. Aesthetically speaking, this place is quite remarkable… no por nada es uno de los lounges y tapas bars más populares en el OC. The purple velevet strewn everywhere and silver gauze hanging from the ceiling also add up to the atmosphere at this hang out spot. It’s also the perfect place to chill at The Block if you’re looking to get away from the wannabe thugs and annoying kids and teenagers that usually roam The Block.

What to drink: You would expect a “tradicional” tapas bar to have some badass sangria; unfortunately this is not the case at “Café Tu Tu Tango”.  While they do have sangria (white and red), you might want to skip on that one since it’s neither good nor authentic.

Instead you can sip on a Leonardo’s Lemonade (perfecta para el calor), aside from being refreshing, you can’t really taste the alcohol, which can be a good thing.

They also have some tasty Raspberry Martinis, which are very well done… los preparan tan fuertes que maybe you’ll have enough with just two of those.

Now, if you can’t call it a night without having a chela, they have a huge selection of beer on tap, including Blue Moon and Grolsh.

If you’re a heavy drinker, es recomendable que te eches tus tragos during happy hour, since most of the drinks, if not all of them, are 50% off.

What to eat: Lo chido del menú de “Café Tu Tu Tango” is the fact that the tapas are very eclectic: there’s Spanish tapas, Americanized tapas, and a huge selection of Asian tinged goodies.

cafe tu tu tango tapasThe Oriental Marinated Steak Skewers are a nice choice; it has four tender strips of steak, very well seasoned and tender, with a delicious ginger & soy aioli.

The Beef Flautas, on the other hand, even though they come in four and are big and crispy, they’re a little on the bland side.

Ahora si lo que quieres es una explosión de sabor, the Dynamite Shrimp Spring Rolls are the way to go.  You get deep fried shrimp with vermicelli noodle in a wrap, served with a standard sweet & sour dipping sauce… all in a bed of deep fried noodles.

However, the food spotlight will always shine bright on their desert: the S’mores. You get a platter with graham crackers, Hershey chocolate, and marshmallow skewers so you can build your s’mores yourself… you’ll have a grand ol’ yummy time.
