bludso's bbqWith the current state of the economy, it’s no surprise that we are all hunting for good deals, and food is no exception.  Y aunque por lo general places that serve affordable grub seem to serve the food straight out of the freezer or the garbage can for that matter, there are some joints that serve edible, decent and why not- delicious food that  caters money-conscious peeps and to us folks on a budget (students and/ or starving artists). If you want to have a delicious non-fast-food meal filled with loads of mouthwatering delicacies que te dejarán chupándote los dedos y hasta lambiendo el plato, then you must head over to “Bludso’s BBQ”, which is one of the best, if not the best BBQ joints in the L.A. area.

Location, location, location!

Now, the location of “Bludso’s BBQ” might be a turn off for many… and rightfully so since it’s located in the heart of the lovely city of Compton.

However, if you’re familiar with the area, you’ll know that Compton is not as bad as people make it up to be.  It’s no longer the ghetto fabulous home to gangs and crazy shiz like that… it might still be a little rough around the edges, but overall it’s all misconception based on its turbulent past. bludso's bbq, compton

With that in mind, even if you’re a bit hesitant to check out this joint, “Bludso’s” is located on a major avenue, and it has its own parking… so you can relax and breathe- you’re not gonna get jumped and your carcacha is not gonna get stolen either.

The BBQ shack

No por nada is “Bludso’s” known as the ultimate BBQ shack… it’s not just a cute nickname- it’s literally a shack. If you’re claustrophobic you might have a hard time eating at this joint, so be prepared to either suck it up or just order to go. The place is smaller than your typical hole-in-the-wall…

Nevertheless, with size issues aside, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the service in this family owned and operated restaurant- the staff is beyond friendly, y lo major y más chido de todo is that they seriously and genuinely treat you like family.

It’s all about the food

bludso's texas samplerIf you’re a vegetarian, after a trip to “Bludson’s BBQ” you’ll leave your vegetarian ways behind… way behind.  Basta con simplemente oler la comida to see that this is no ordinary restaurant.

The aroma itself is intoxicating, just a little heads up as to what to expect. Con la comida de este lugar no hay pierde, no matter what you order it’s gonna be scrumptious… even the side dishes.

Si eres un carnívoro de hueso colorado, you should go straight for the “Texas Sampler”… it’ll blow your brains out- it’s about 6 lbs of all kinds of meat on top of meat, topped with more meat and surrounded by sausage.  You’ll find ribs, brisket, pulled pork… you name it!

The brisket is moist and so tender it literally melts in your mouth.  The ribs on the other hand are sinfully delicious- oh so tender and juicy.

Although the meat is beyond tasty, most of the props go to their finger licking BBQ sauce.  It’s the perfect blend of smokiness and spice, plus the sauce servings are quite generous.  They have two choices: mild and spicy.  While the spicy has a distinct flavor and a nice kick to it, for some odd reason, the mild one tastes better.

There are several choices for sides, and of course mac and cheese is a must. However, even though it the mac and cheese at “Bludso’s” tastes good, it’s not amazing. If you want amazing, order baked beans.  They’re the bomb. bludso's banana pudding

Of course, you most certainly cannot leave this joint without having some banana pudding.  You’ll literally go bananas -B.A.N.A.N.A.S.- one spoonful of this will send you to desert heaven and bring you right back to earth for some more.

“Bludso’s BBQ” is the ultimate BBQ shack. If you live in SoCal, its one of those places that you must visit at least once.  Just go. Period.
