The Basics: If during the week you get an urge to go out, yet you wanna keep things relatively low key but still have pretty good time, “Barbrix” in Silverlake makes a great hang out place. This joint could easily be the hole-in-the-wall of Tapas bars/ lounges in the area, for it is very small and if you tend to drive as a maniac, it could go unnoticed… sure, that can be a pain, but it’s also part of its charm. “Barbrix” is a quaint tapas bar/ lounge, with eco-trendy décor and dim lighting… while it could be the perfect romantic spot, it’s more of a boys/girls-night-out kinda place. This joint is perfect to unwind and enjoy some delicious food.
Aside from being a cozy place, “Barbrix” has some really good and outstanding service. The staff is beyond friendly and extremely helpful, they know their menu and their drinks pretty good.
What to drink: “Barbrix” has a pretty decent wine variety. The house red wine is a great selection that goes well with almost every entrée on the menu. Now if you like to start off with a beer, they also have lots to choose from.
Instead of sticking to the good old Corona, switch it up with some of their imported beers… they have Delerium Themens, a Belgium beer that’s quite a catch.
What to eat: Lo chido de comer in tapas bars like “Barbrix” es que you get to taste almost a little bit of everything without feeling completely guilty for having so much food since the portion are bite-size, plus it’s all shared with your partner in crime.
The tapas at this joint fuse more than one kind of cuisine, resulting in interesting but tasty creations such as wasabi deviled eggs, lamb chops, hamachi crudo, Sicilian veal meatballs, squash blossoms, among other dishes.
The squash blossoms are a great way to begin since they’re light and crunchy, served with herbed goat cheese and corn salad. The wasabi deviled eggs on the other hand, are like nothing you’ve had before- the creamy yolk center topped with perfectly seared albacore is dreamy.
For seafood lovers, the hamachi crudo will blow your mind- it’s served with ginger crème fraiche, avocado, and paprika oil, which is fresh and well balanced.
Another zesty entry are the Sicilian veal meatballs, seasoned with pecorino, lemon, and bay… they’re fantastic!
