The Basics: With so many lounges and bars around, you’re eventually bound to go to one where you’ll have a less than stellar experience. Unfortunately and to many people’s dismay, that may be the case at “Bar Celona”. Despite a great concept, a superb location in Old Town Pasadena, and a regular clientele, this joint can be a lukewarm experience… sin embargo, tienen lo suyo and a glass of their white sangria is worth the visit.

“Bar Celona” is a mid-sized tapas bar/ lounge with colorful and modern décor, 2 large projection screens that are usually playing sports, a relaxed atmosphere, and a decent music selection varying from electronica, dance, Top40, and even rock en español.

What to drink: The white sangria at “Bar Celona” is the business, it’s strong enough without the alcohol overpowering the sweetness of the fruit, and sweet enough but not too sweet… the perfect balance in flavor and freshness.

Si la sangria no es lo tuyo, the mojitos are pretty bomb as well… ahora, si quieres algo mas relax, their Tempranilla/ Grenache blend wine is a great option… you can get it by the glass or by the bottle.

What to eat: Something you can’t complain about at “Bar Celona” is their menu, since you have a lot to choose from… it’s varied and well balanced. However, even with lots of choices, (unfortunately) the food is less than stellar… the food is relatively good, but no really memorable.

They have a decent salted tuna- apple and almonds on salted, thinly sliced tuna; also, skewered shrimp- which comes with a sweet and lemony sauce; their fried potatoes are creamy and smooth and have a nice texture to them; a highlight on the menu is their goat cheese croquettes and their endive salad which is refreshing- it comes with yellow beets, green beans, endive, mixed in a light dressing.
