baccali cafe and rotisserieIf you’ve ever been down Valley Blvd. on the San Gabriel Valley area, it’s impossible not to notice the abundance of Asian food joints… as a matter of fact they’re everywhere… even more so than taco stands on East Los.  La neta es que Valley Blvd. could easily be considered to be the Las Vegas strip of Asian restaurants. That is why choosing a place to eat while strolling down this avenue can turn into a heated argument.  Save the drama for your mama and argue no more and just stop by “Baccali Café & Rotisserie”, a Chinese/ Asian fusion joint that will cater to all tastes. En este restaurnate encontrarás de todo un poco since its deli style allows it to have an huge menu.

Even though the competition for restaurants on Valley Blvd. is tough, “Baccali Café & Rotisserie” stand out thanks to their humongous eclectic menu, a simple décor with plasma TV’s in every corner, and last but not least, a fully stocked bar, something rarely seen in Asian food restaurants.

Get it started

Aunque el changarro esté hasta el tope de comensales, the wait staff at “Baccali” is fast and efficient and will find you and your party a table en menos de lo que canta un gallo.

tofu appetizerAlthough the staff is swift, competent, and keep drinks coming like crazy (you’ll never have an empty cup at your table), don’t expect customer service to be superb.  Don’t get it twisted, service at “Baccali” is not that bad for being an Asian restaurant- most of which are known for having bad service… we know it, they know it, they know we know it.  Deal with it and enjoy your food.

In spite of their mammoth menu, they have a fairly limited amount of appetizers.  You can go with the “classics” fries and/ or fried calamari, of course with Asian seasonings. However, dejan mucho que desear since they just seem (and taste) like they were served straight out of the freezer.

If you really really REALLY feel like having an appetizer, the fried tofu will do the trick.  The little tofu squares, lightly breaded, deep fried and lightly seasoned aren’t half bad.

La comida

Ya que la especialidad de la casa es el pollo, no puedes visitar “Baccali Café & Rotisserie” without trying at least a dish with chicken.

baccali cafe malaysian rotisserie chickenIf you can’t make your mind out of the various chicken dishes on the menú, you really can’t go wrong with the house “special”- the Baccali Rotisserie Chicken.  This dish includes half a chicken, stir fried veggies, and your choice of rice or pasta (the pasta can be iffy, so you’re safe getting white rice).  Since the chicken is slowly roasted and constantly marinated is simply phenomenal- it’s tender and juicy.  The rice and the veggies are nothing to rave about but they do compliment the main dish really well.

Beware of the portions though… they’re humongous!

baccali cafe beef chow meinIf you want to try something a little more adventurous, the Malaysian Roasted Chicken is also a good choice. This dish is similar to the Baccali chicken- it’s even served with rice and veggies, but the chicken is simmered in a special sauce that gives it a unique kick.

Now, if you’re craving some of the more “traditional” Americanized Chinese food dishes, “Baccali” serves a pretty good beef chow mein- whose servings are even bigger than the rest of the dishes.  The only downside to this entrée is the fact that it’s on the greasy side, other than that it’s scrumptious.

“Baccali Café & Rotisserie” is a good spot to eat some rockin’ Asian fusion grub or just for a drink with the cuates.
