Ana’s Bionicos: no tricks, all treat

Ana's BionicosWhen you have a terrible sweet tooth es super difícil guardar la línea.  It doesn’t matter if you religiously count your calories, eat nothing but lettuce or straight out starve yourself, the downfall for many of us comes when we crave something sweet and instead of opting for healthy sweets we stuff our faces with cookies, chocolate and all the baked goodies que se nos pongan enfrente.  If you’re one of those people that need at least a weekly dose of glucose to function properly without having a meltdown but are tired of eating insipid plain old fruit or you’re done with breaking your diet and succumbing to all the so good but oh so bad junk food, don’t fret anymore, the bionicos are here to save you.

Sin querer queriendo

If you’ve had bionicos before (and now let’s keep it real here, who hasn’t?!), you know they’re pretty simple- it doesn’t take a genius to put together a bionico, right?

Well… NO!

The secret of a good bionico lies on the freshness of the fruit and ultimately on the toppings and the sweet cream the fruit is smothered in. While many places serve ok bionicos, few of them have memorable bionicos.  Even in the land of all things Mexican- East L.A. it’s hard to find good bionicos.  So it came off as a surprise when a couple of friends and I came across “Ana’s Bionicos” in Norwalk.

We walked in not expecting much from their bionicos, we were just craving a bionico and were too lazy and tired to hunt for a good bionico in East L.A., and so we ordered bionicos.

Sweet!

BionicoWhile the bionico was up to standard and all the fruit was pretty much in sight, the texture of the cream caught my eye since it was not thick nor watery but just perfectly creamy.
The bionico came with banana, strawberry, apple, melon, cantaloupe, and papaya- the fruit was smothered in their signature, which was also topped by shredded coconut, raisins, and granola.

It only took one spoonful to turn this bionico from “Ana’s” into my new addiction.  The fruit is fresh and juicy, in perfect bite-size chunks and the sweet crème is simply delicious- es dulce sin resultar empalagoza.

Bionicos are not the only thing they serve; “Ana’s Bionicos” also has fruit cocktail with seasonal fruit, fresh fruit smoothies, boba smoothies and snacks like dried mango, elotes in a cup, dorislocos (which is a combination of churritos de maiz con cueritos, cacahuates y mucho chamoy).

Versatility

Ana's BionicosPor si fuera poco “Ana’s Bionicos” also has a food menu filled with health conscious lunch/ dinner alternatives like salads and sandwiches.

Since we were hungry and wanted actual food, we ordered a salad and a couple of chicken and tuna sandwiches to go. The salad was ok, nothing to rave about; the lettuce was fresh and crispy though.  Now, the sandwiches were a pleasant surprise.  They looked and tasted homemade…

Ya sea que tengas hambre o simplemente estés de antojo, “Ana’s Bionicos” will please your taste buds.
