The Mid-City Arts Gallery is proud to present “Resurrection”, Daniel Ramos’ first ever graffiti art exhibit. Although the name has close to none recognition to it, even if you’re not familiar with graffiti art, Daniel Ramos’ alias “Chaka” might ring a bell. Back in the late 80’s/ early 90’s, “Chaka” was infamously known for his graffiti tags all over SoCal- from San Diego to San Francisco. The “Chaka” phenomenon took the authorities, graffiti artists, and the general public alike by surprise by tagging on more than 10,000 locations. When the inevitable happened and “Chaka” was caught by authorities, he was sentenced to 3 years probation and 1,560 hours of graffiti clean-up… of course he had to leave with a bang, thus tagging the courthouse where he was arraigned. That seemed to be the end of “Chaka” until a Mid-City Arts Gallery curator found Daniel Ramos and convinced him of putting together an official graffiti art exhibit.
This time around you’ll get to experience “Chaka’s” artwork sprayed on canvas rather than on private and public property. Over 20 works will be on display, all up for sale.
“Resurrection” is definitely an exhibit worth checking out… plus it goes hand in hand with the Mid-City Arts Gallery ultimate purpose which is to showcase local, national, and international art work from up and coming and established artists with a focus on graffiti/ street/ urban art.
What better way to kick off a season than with the infamous “Chaka”.
