“Brace Yourself” is the new exhibit organized by Peel Here, an unbiased forum for sticker and paste-up artist, that features large scaled sticker art in a gallery setting, along with interactive modules for guests to slap stickers and add their tag. The Adhesive Art Exhibition opening on July 17th at Self Help Graphics in East L.A. will feature a Massive Sticker Wall, Street Furniture, a Sticker Trading Zone, as well as “Open Call Submission” Sticker Installation and live music performances by local bands and DJ’s.
In 2005, Richard & Rosanna Ahrens of Sticky Rick’s and Damon Robinson of Praise the Lowered, made an extraordinary discovery when they decided to create “Peel Here”, an adhesive art exhibition, to kick off the Sticky Rick’s sticker printing company.
They discovered that people from all over the globe of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds are crazy about stickers. Along with this overall love for stickers, there exists a subculture that uses this medium to communicate a language on the urban landscape. This urban language communicates messages of time, place and people – stickers are personal, mobile, temporary works of art that speak for themselves and are designed to be seen by the masses”.
This year’s theme is inspired by and focuses on the current social, political, economic and environmental climate we live in today. Brace Yourself! the urban underground speaks. Self Help Graphics & Art, whose historical social consciousness through the arts is legendary will co-host the event.
Brace Yourself Event will take place at Self Help Graphics in East L.A., on Saturday, July 17th, 6 to midnight. Live music will be provided by local bands The Sirens, The Leaf Blowers, Turbo Mex, Four Way Hit, Electric Current, Eccentric Kaos and and DJ’s DJ Toks, DJ Brohmeini and AC The PD.
The Exhibit will run through July 31st. General admission is $5 – all ages. First 100 guests will receive a free Stick Rick’s gift bag.
