Cabaret Mediterranea

By March 17, 2009Edúcate

cabaret mediterraneaAlthough cabaret dance is and has always been associated with female exotic dancers, the Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica (always known for pushing the envelope) will be showcasing the first ever Arabian drag performance.  “Cabaret Mediterranea” will feature not only drag performances, but will also present a rather complete dance concert filled with an eclectic, exotic and original cabaret style performance of Mediterranean and Arabic dance and song. Por si fuera poco, expect a special performance by acclaimed new generation flamenco dancer Timo Nunez. Also performing: Mas, Nar, Jose Promis, Saleem, among others.

This is not a solely sexual and homoerotic performance, so don’t even trip.  It does most certainly feature some high-quality and well-worked eye-candy, but that is not what makes the show. Once you let go of the fact that the dancers on stage are physically gorgeous and in some cases well endowed, you’ll realize that the dancing is magnificent.

The performance by Timo Nunez is one to watch, his footwork and flamenco mastery are superb.
