You may know Mexican food, Mexican beer, Mexican tequila, and Mexican celebrity hotties. But do you know Mexican cinema? This weekend at the third annual Hola Mexico Film Festival, you can go past your love for burritos, Tecate, Patrón, and Salma Hayek, by indulging in six days worth of Mexican flicks.

Taking place at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood, California from May 19th-25th, the 2011 Hola Mexico Film Festival (HMFF) will showcase narratives, documentaries and films by Mexican film production companies and directors.

HMFF offers a selection of 9 narrative and 3 documentary feature films, including 3 USA premieres and 5 Los Angeles Premieres.

The opening night screening features the USA premiere of “Acorazado”, a narrative comedy about Silverio, a failed former union member from Mexico who decides to make his old friend Alacrán’s dream come true by sailing to Miami in search of the American Dream. In a moment of eureka, Silverio transforms his old taxi into a raft that will take him across the Gulf of Mexico to the Florida Coast.  But, as one can imagine, a turn of events aboard his taxi-boat transforms Alacrán’s dream into a new reality.
