Gael Garcia Bernal en The Motorcycle DiariesHopefully, by seeing thismovie, people would get toknow a little bit about Che otherthan buying the T-shirts

In the movie “The Motorcycle Diaries”, Mexican born actor Gael Garcia Bernal takes on probably one of the biggest challenges of his acting career: portraying the demi-god revolutionary Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara. Was Che a beloved leader or the Anti-Christ with a license to kill? That could be the next installment in El Che’s life, but for now The Motorcycle Diaries focuses on Che’s youth with the trip that would change his life.

There are many stories told about the slain leader, who was shot by the Bolivian military when he was 39, whose hypnotizing glare has made him a favorite on T-shirts. Bernal is not afraid to sink his teeth into this juicy role. He’s used to taking chances. He had no problem shedding his clothes in “Y Tu Mamá También” played a love struck priest in 2002 “Crimen Del Padre Amaro” and will soon play three characters in the upcoming Pedro Almodovar’s “Bad Education” due out in October. Bernal admits he had no idea how to portray the enigmatic icon. Che was an asthmatic kid with a promising future of being an engineer. He dropped out of school one year before graduation and joined Alberto Granado trekking all over South America. The movie chronicles their adventurous time during their trip. Che kept an extensive diary on his rebellious youth days. To prepare for the role, Bernal had to speak with an Argentinean accent and learned how to ride a bike.
