No te va gustar

Uruguayan rock band, No Te Va Gustar (NTVG), announced a tour of the U.S, that is part of their international tour, presenting their latest studio production entitled “El Calor En Pleno Invierno” (The Heat in Winter)

This album received a certification of Double Platinum in Argentina and Triple Platinum in Uruguay and has just been nominated for the Latin Grammy in the “Best Rock Album” category and their single “A Las Nueve” was nominated for “Best Rock Song”.

To find out more about the album and the tour, we had a phone conversation with lead singer, Emiliano Brancciari.

When I asked Emiliano about the album title, “El Calor En Pleno Invierno” (The Heat in Winter) he responded: “After having finished several songs, we noticed that the running theme was ambiguity between good and bad, happiness and sadness, in which one has to exists in order for the other to exist, and it was also a phrase in one of the songs, so we decided to take it as the album title.”

On July 14, 2012, during an American tour, keyboardist, Marcel Curuchet was killed in a motorcycle accident in NYC, which led to the band canceling the tour and Emilio commented: “This album is very special to us because Marcel played on it, so for us, this album is a tribute to our friend and we are give it our all behind this album and tour because this event marked our lives many ways and we want to honor the memory of our band mate.”

After Emilio brought up the accident, I asked if it was a hard decision to continue as a band and he replied: “It wasn’t hard, at first we took an arbitrary decision to continue, then we thought we didn’t know what was going to happen or how we would feel, but as time went by we realized that this was the best decision we could have taken as music is what we do and don’t know how to do anything else and we also know and feel that Marcel would have wanted us to continue”

In “El Calor En Pleno Invierno”, there are special collaborations with Fernando Ruiz Díaz (Catupecu Machu), on  “Mil Días”, Germán Daffunchio (Las Pelotas) on “Desde Hace Un Sueño” and Jorge Serrano (Auténticos Decadentes) on “Religión Pagana” and Emiliano stated: “When we have collaborations, it is because the songs dictates it, and normally we will rely on people we admire, people we have good relationship with, or something in common, but we always let the songs tell us if we should have a collaboration.”
