“Songs + Canciones 1” from songstress Maria Del Pilar is the first installment of a musical trilogy born out of the singer’s reconnection with creating music.

Produced by Chilean DJ, Vicente Sanfuentes, the album follows Del Pilar’s signature bilingual and Spanglish style, which has been celebrated by fans since her days as front woman to Latin alternative band Los Abandoned.

“Songs + Canciones 1” features musicians from Chile’s and the U.S.’ Latin alternative music scene, including a duet with Gepe on the track “Huaso de Los Angelitos” and a tribute to María del Pilar’s musician father. “It’s a very fruitful time right now which is the complete opposite of what I was experiencing before,” said Del Pilar. “There’s so much material I want to write, that I want to have these albums come out consecutively. Not in a typical two-year album release cycle.”

Out on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 through Cosmica Records, the album evolved from a trip Del Pilar took to her native Chile. There, she became one with the local culture and embraced the richness of her surroundings. The reconnection with her roots made her fall in love with music all over again.

The track “En el Dancefloor,” co-produced by Filip Nikolic, speaks about that emotion.
“It’s that journey of frustration you take when you can’t find love,” said Del Pilar. “It’s not happening or it’s gone. It feels like love has completely left you behind. And it’s like, okay, before I can find love outside of myself, I have to find it within me.”

The album’s first single, “Motivation,” was written with Sanfuentes, and is the first music video released from the album. As directed by Mark “Cosmo” Segurson, Del Pilar is seen “trying on four alter egos in an attempt to locate her muse”.

MDP’s new sound is already garnering attention on LA’s alternative taste-making radio station KCRW where DJ Travis Holcombe can be heard playing the English-language track “High Heels”—a song about the hijinks that can ensue from a good pair of pumps.

To celebrate the release of “Songs + Canciones 1”, Maria Del Pilar will perform at The Satellite in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The showcase will also welcome Gaby Moreno on stage.

The second installment of “Songs + Canciones” is expected to be released within the next few months.
