Love Star - Espectro

Love Star, the dynamic duo comprised of lead singer and keyboardist Adriana Fernandez (Starla) and Will Alves (The Doctor) on guitar will be celebrating the debut of their new EP, Espectro: Capitulo 1 with a free concert at Los Globos in Silver Lake this Saturday night.

Espectro was recorded, produced and mixed by 16-time Grammy winning producer Thom Russo , who has worked with such luminaries of Latin music like Juanes, Alejandro Sanz and Maná. According to the band, this new group of songs encompasses the full spectrum (or “espectro”) of life’s interactions and relationships… love, heartache, break ups and everything in between. For Love Star, getting the chance to work with someone like Thom was by no means luck or an accident. Starla tells the story of how Thom and Love Star met: “We found the person that we wanted to work with and walked a press kit straight through his front door. We felt Thom’s style matched ours as he has worked with a wide range of Spanish artists in several different genres.”

Love Star was formed in 2009 and has been a staple of the Latin alternative music scene in Los Angeles from the very beginnings. Their mixture of cultures and bilingual lyrics makes the band endearing not only to the “old” Latino audiences but to the new more bi-cultural and bi-lingual generation of Latinos not only in Los Angeles but in the whole country and their appeal also spills over to non-Spanish speaking audiences which has taken the band to share stages with the likes of Jorge Gonzales from Los Prisioneros, Jumbo, Dave Navarro, Kenny y Los Electricos, and Tommy Lee.

Will Alves was influenced by such icons as John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Edge from U2 , Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine and Jack White while Starla began singing in church so her influences come from gospel and artists who were influence by gospel music like Elvis Presley, Bono or Michael Jackson, who also influenced her love for dance music and from this concoction of different influences we get Love Star’s sound, which is a combination of electronic music with a guitar edge that allows the band to easily maneuver from danceable tinted tunes to an edgier rock & roll sound.
