Come out and make some “bulla” at this year’s inaugural “LA BULLA” Art Exhibit and Cultural Festival.
The event, which celebrates Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling), will be held at the historic La Plaza de la Raza in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 11th, 2015. The eccentric event is being brought by powerhouses Antonio Pelayo, Dan Madigan, and Steve Guererro and it promises to be a wild night of art, music, culture, and raucous.

Antonio Pelayo, creator of one of LA’s biggest Day of the Dead events, El Velorio, is as an exceptionally talented “hyperrealist” artist. He is gathering his fellow artist for an exhibition to celebrate one of his favorite childhood past times, Lucha Libre. “Bulla” which means “noise” or “fuss” was also a childhood nickname given to Antonio by his father. Antonio Sr., being an avid Mexican wrestling fan himself, gave his son this nickname after a Japanese wrestler named Shibuya; having watched him mimic ”luchadores” (Mexican wrestlers) at the tender age of three. A fond memory of his father, a proper nickname, a love for the sport, and the passion for art was the perfect combination for the idea of “LA BULLA” to begin brewing in Antonio’s head.

Dan Madigan, Antonio’s friend, mentor, and artist has carried a childhood fascination for the Mexican sport and even put his passion into words as the author of Mondo Lucha A Go-Go: The Bizarre and Honorable World of Wild Mexican Wrestling. Steve Guererro, friend and business partner of Antonio is a professional guru who has participated and led in multiple successful ventures.

The three have joined forces to bring this one of a kind event with a full lineup of hosts, live bands, and over 100 artists exhibiting their Lucha Libre-themed work. One of which, will be the multi-talented artist Sergio Arau, best known for his work as director for indie film A Day Without a Mexican and a founding member for Mexican rock band, Botellita de Jerez.

As co-hosts of the event, La Bulla welcomes actor and comedian Aurelio Miguel Bocanegra, who recently appeared on Fox’s TV hit Bones and the beautiful print model Amanda Garcia, who had appeared on Skinz Magazine.

For your listening and dancing pleasure, hitting the outdoor stage will be four of LA’s hard-hitting Latin Alternative bands; La Resistencia, El Sonido Callejero, Profesor Galactico, and Kotolan. Along with live music, djs Eric Coleman, Gargamel, Toks, Alter, and Joe funk will keep the party going. These non-stop tunes will make you move your lips, stomp your feet, and sway your hips.
In addition to providing a night of full entertainment, La Bulla will raise both dollars and visibility for the movement of the performing arts at La Plaza de la Raza. It is in collaboration with the American Diabetes Awareness-LA division to promote diabetes awareness and it will be proudly sponsored by El Jimador, Tito’s Vodka, Jarritos, Stella Rosa, Masked Republic, and many more.
