Hablan por la espalda at SXSW

Uruguay will be making a strong presence at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin TX, with the “Sounds of Uruguay” showcase in which there will be six Uruguayan acts making an appearance, including Hablan Por La Espalda (Talking Behind Their Backs)

Argentina’s Rolling Stone magazine described Hablan Por La Espalda as “The Doors at 140 kilometers an hour, with no brakes. Nobody can stop them”.

Created in the hardcore scene of the late 90´s, Hablan Por La Espalda (HPLE) evolved through the following years due to a personal – and bold – remake of the pre-dictatorship oriental candombe beat (the legacy of Tótem & El Kinto, among others).  In their risky musical search, percussion contributes to generate a mystic halo of afro-charrúa ritual, merging itself with Black Sabbath type riffs and keyboard sounds inspired by those of Ray Manzarek of The Doors.

HPLE has toured in Europe and a large portion of South America, while they have published their albums on CD and vinyl formats in countries as diverse as Switzerland and Brazil.

In October of 2011 HPLE were part of the celebration of Uruguay´s Bicentennial Anniversary along with El Cuarteto de Nos, Jaime Roos, Jorge Drexler & La Vela Puerca, among others.

Currently, HPLE are working on their fifth album, the successor of “Macumba”, an album that obtained the award of “Best Alternative Album of the Year” in the main stage of Uruguayan music, The Graffiti Awards (2010), and in 2013, the album was released in double vinyl.

In June of 2013, HPLE participated in the Emerging City Festival (Buenos Aires) and in October they closed the Rolling Stone Magazine stage at Trimarchi DG (Mar del Plata).

2014 started with great expectations, the recording of a new album and the invite to participate at the showcase SOUNDS OF URUGUAY, presented at the SXSW in Austin, TX, this coming March 12 at the Speakeasy at 412 Congress Ave.
