The 27th Grand Performances concert series held at the California Plaza in Downtown Los Angeles kicks off on Friday, June 21 with an improvised, live remixed montage of sci-fi movie scenes, in which producer and DJ Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL) will interpolate film and beats to create a unique musical narrative. As always, the event is a free, all ages and eclectic event that hosts artists from various musical genres.
This year’s showcase will range from brass horns to Latin alternative to classical Bernstein and sock puppets. On the Latin Alternative side will be Brujerías de Papel, Chico Trujillo, Las Cafeteras, and Palenke Soultribe. Returning to the showcase are Ozomatli and Novalima, as well as complimentary bike valet for cyclists.
The series will end on Sunday, August 11 with a “Cinderella” sock puppet show presented by Sock Puppet Sitcom Theater. The complete calendar event page will be available online in May.
