El General Paz y La Triple Frontera (GP3F) is band created by well known Argentine guitarist, recording engineer and producer Anel Paz who along with Brazilian Kiki Ferreira, Uruguayan Jorge Platero and fellow  argentines Mayra Dómine, Diego La Rosa and César La Rosa

With the influence of the three neighboring countries, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay and the rest of Latin America, El General Paz y La Triple Frontera have created a fusion of diverse rhythms that include South American folk music, Brazilian music, rock, funk, jazz, world music and Afro Latin rhythms, with which they have created their own sound and identity.

Since its beginnings, GP3F has been captivating audiences at major festivals like the Pepsi Music Festival, and Quilmes Rock in South America as well as SXSW in Austin, TX.

To learn more about GP3F we had the opportunity to speak to three of the members of the band via telephone all the way to Argentina, and here we share a portion of our interview with Anel Paz, Jorge Platero and Cesar La Rosa.

El general album - MaravillasAl Borde (AB) Tell us how this project came about?

GP3F (Anel Paz) – This project began 8 years ago, at the beginning it was an idea that I had of creating a project of musical fusion because I wanted an outlet for all these experiences that I had gained from working with different artists and it was simply a wish, and by the magic that music has, I found these other great musicians and friends and it came together in a very natural way as everyone brought in their own musical knowledge and influences.

AB – I imagine it has to be a lot of fun when you are mixing up all these different sounds and creating your own music.

GP3F (Jorge Plateros) I would say that is more like a synthesis, as very often we mix two or three different sounds or ideas and a completely different idea or sound comes out of that and it also has to do with rhythms which is what connects all of us no matter where we come from, we always respond to rhythms, which is like the global language.

AB – Listening to your albums, it seems to be that you also allow for improvisation for when you play live.

GP3F (Cesar De La Rosa) – Yes, we are lucky that we are able to play the music that we like and that comes out of us, and it also allows us to reach deep into our musical knowledge and we allow ourselves to experiment and renew ourselves in every show, the live solos we all play are always improvised.  Our music has a certain form or base, but it also allows us to improvise and go with flow of the show.

AB – Earlier in the year you played the SXSW festival, how was it to play in the U.S. for the first time?

GP3F (Jorge Plateros) – It was a great experience, other musicians would see us carrying our instruments and they would approach us and there was a genuine connection, and that’s something that doesn’t happen in other places or very often.  When we played the stage,  the audience was very receptive to our music and it was fantastic to see the connection with the audience.
