El Aguijon del Diablo bands

In an effort to revive and preserve the spirit of Latin rock in the city of Los Angeles, a new venture, “El Aguijon Del Diablo” is debuting its monthly concert series at the Torino Lounge this coming September 18 with L.A. rock icons, Pastilla, RIFL3 and one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the scene, Vim Furor.

I had the pleasure of being invited by our friends from the radio show Los Fabricantes Del Ruido to a filming of live performances and interviews with the bands and had the opportunity to find out from the creator of El Aguijon Del Diablo, how this new project came about.

El Aguijon del diablo - Vim furor“El Aguijon Del Diablo was created out of the necessity to make some noise and get the adrenaline out of our system and because there aren’t very many places for us to play and we want to create a space where bands that play original music can play and also get paid, maybe they won’t get paid a lot of money, but at least enough to buy some beers after the show and have a good time and at the same time help the scene grow again.” Stated Gabriel “Gabo” Ramírez founder of the project and drummer for RIFL3

RIFL3 originally began as a solo project from guitarist and lead singer Larrhy Ruiz; originally from Los Curanderos, after composing several songs, he then invited Gabriel “Gabo” Ramírez former drummer of María Fatal and Concrete Blonde, who in turn brought in, former Maria Fatal bassist Jose “Pepe” Alonso and all the pieces were in place for RIFL3 to begin playing the local circuit.

The first time I experience RIFL3 was at Los Globos and everyone was left in awe after hearing the power of their music, as they added more shows like the King King, Mal’s Bar and other venues, more and more people have become fans of the band and everyone keeps asking if they have any recorded music, and lucky for us, the band is currently working on an album.

Pastilla is one of the few surviving bands of the first wave of Latin rock bands in L.A. and after releasing several albums, moving to Mexico City and returning back to L.A. Pastilla continues to be one of the most popular bands in the scene. Although some original members have left the band, Pastilla continues to create new music and are getting ready to release a new album titled Sentidos Saturados.

Although Vim Furor is relatively a new band, its members have had plenty of experience in past musical projects including the early incarnation of Vim Furor which was called Son Locuaz. At the end of last year, Vim Furor released their first full length album titled The Six Arm Beast, an album that has received rave reviews by the fans and the music press. Vim Furor is one of the most exciting live bands to watch not only in L.A, but in all of music, whether is Latin rock or any type of rock.

With the caliber of bands in this line up, Thursday September 18th at the Torino Lounge in the city of Paramount, it should be a night to remember. To find out more and to keep track of upcoming shows from El Aguijon Del Diablo, you can follow them on Facebook at El Aguijon Del Diablo Presents.
