Taking place on the weekend of May 19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, LéaLA, the largest Spanish-language book fair in the U.S., will honor two of the Hispanic communities most recent and greatest losses: Mexican novelist Carlos Fuentes and Mexican-American music icon, Jenny Rivera.
During the free, 3-day festival, the homage for Fuentes will mark the one-year anniversary of his passing and celebrate the novelist’s life-long support of the country’s immigrant Latino community.
Rivera, one of the few women to break into the male-dominated, banda and norteña music genre, will also be remembered through a special event at LéaLA.
LéaLA, the Los Angeles Spanish-language Book Fair, is an initiative backed by the University of Guadalajara at Los Angeles and the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL). Since 2011, this event seeks to encourage reading, promote Spanish-language books and foster recognition of the Latino population, their culture and customs.
