The cool night of Friday, February 12th, 2016 provided a pleasant atmosphere for a pre-Valentine’s Day celebration. Boleros De Noche kicked off its first concert of the year at the beautiful La Plaza De Cultura Y Artes in Downtown Los Angeles. Having multiple events under their belt, of which have hosted Trio Ellas and Marisol y Los Hermanos Carlos, the first edition of this series was warmly welcome right on time for some romance. Power duo Roberto Carlos (Los Hermanos Carlos) and Citlalli Chavez (multi cultural project coordinator) paired since up last year to create Boleros De Noche and take you back in time to celebrate the culture and music of old Latin America. On this night, the stage belonged to two beautiful acts; Trio Alma y Alma and Grupo Bella.

Trio Alma y Alma, comprised of two well-dressed gentlemen carrying guitars and a beautiful young woman, stood on stage. The charming three provided the audience with jokes, anecdotes, and even a brief lesson on the meaning of “requinto” which is a higher-pitched version of an instrument. They serenaded the crowd with classics like “Sin Ti” and even invited event co-producer Roberto Carlos to show off his own skills on the guitar on “Perdon.”

An intermission provided a nice break for cocktails and delicious Oaxaca style food catered by Guelaguestza Restaurant.

One by one, the stunning ladies of Grupo Bella walked onto the stage wearing long red skirts and red flowers on their hair. Carrying violins, a guitarron, guitars, and a flute, several of the young ladies alternated their beautiful voices on the microphone. They sang favorites like “Sabor a Mi” and even did a classy Mariachi version of “At Last” by Etta James. Along with the seven female members, folkloric dancers also joined the stage for several of the songs.

“Boleros de Noche” has followed through their commitment of presenting high-quality cultural events that showcase traditional bolero music from Latin America. This was another beautifully classy night; a celebration music, culture and love.
