El festival músico-cultural L.A. Sound System es oficialmente el primer festival de música alterlatina de tipo masivo en el área de Los Angeles, y a pesar de que ha habido otros intentos con muy buenas intenciones, nunca había habido un festival tan grande con bandas de renombre y que se llevara a cabo como todo buen masivo: en el verano y en la calle. Con una alineación que comprende a bandas de España, Francia, Brasil y México, así como de lo largo y ancho de la escena local (Miami, Texas y Los Angeles) L.A. Sound System tiene también un tema ecológico como fondo y además de celebrar la diversidad musical y cultural de sus participantes (aunque se promueve como un festival internacional de ska y reggae aquí hay “psycho billy”, punk, ska, reggae y otras fusiones), también promueve la conciencia ecológica a través de su alter ego llamado “Rock por tu madre”.

Performance Schedule

Formed in December of 1979, the Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance was created to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity that exists in the neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Echo Park and Los Feliz. This area of Los Angeles has long been recognized as an area where Artists, Gen X, Gen Y, Latinos, Gays, Lesbians, Students and entertainment moguls strive to live in harmony through mutual acceptance and respect for each others way of life.

In 2002, Sunset Junction was ranked Fourth Best Big Event in Los Angeles (behind the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Academy Awards, and the West Hollywood Halloween Parade) by Los Angeles Citysearch, Best of LA 2001. This year, attendance is expected to be at an all time high due to the landmark success of last years event and the exceptional talent that is scheduled to perform. Attendance: 75,000-100,000 daily.

All proceeds benefit Sunset Junction area youth programs.

At this year’s Coachella (one of the country’s largest musical festivals alongside Lollapalooza, Vegoose, and Street Scene) three Mexican bands will be representing Latin rock. Year after year, Coachella surprises the public with their edginess and the way they line-up choices.  Not only do they choose bands and artists that have something different and unique to offer, but the selection is also known for its excellent quality.
