When fans got to find out Bryan Cranston was actually going to be a part of the new Power Rangers movie, a throwback to the original series, they were stoked. When they saw the Power Ranger costumes that looked more like something straight out of Iron Man and Elizabeth Banks looking like a cross between Poison Ivy and a Star Trek villain, they were trepidatious.
But, of course, none of that matters until we get to see the Zords, which were just released, or teased in the new character posters released today.
For those unfamiliar with the series, the Zords were the robots that came to the Power Rangers aid every time Repulsa ended up enlarging the villains she’d sent to take over the Earth. Normally happening around the end of each episode, said new villain would get the drop on the Rangers to the point where they’d have to regroup, learn how to beat the monster, go back to the fight and get the upperhand, and then call on the Zords when the fight got a little too big for their britches.
And even then it was still tough enough that they’d all have to join together to create Megazord, just to help save the Earth.
And while this may sound childish now, when you were a kid, you thought it was awesome and are more than likely willing to step into a theater to revisit that period so long as it doesn’t vary too much from the original source material… something these Zords don’t really seem to do.
Our personal favorite has to be the Blue Ranger going all “Draw Me Like One of Your French Girls” on his Zord, but either way, this looks like a nice little way to tease what’s to come for a Power Rangers movie series that could potentially continue for the long term.
