Alexandre Aja is one of those director’s who’s done a bunch of movies that you’ve heard of, probably seen at least a couple of them, and maybe even recognize his name, but normally would have trouble putting your finger on exactly which projects he’s worked on simply because his movies are generally so spaced out due to his meticulousness as opposed to trying to capitalize on his popularity.

He directed High Tension, or Haute Tension for the French title, The Hills Have Eyes remake, and Horns, and is now teaming with Jamie Dornan and Aaron Paul along with Aiden Longworth and Sarah Godon for his latest project, The 9th Life of Louis Drax, based on the novel by Liz Jensen.

By all accounts, we’ll be following through a Baz Luhrmann like depiction inside the brain of Drax, who’s fallen from a cliff, apparently having been pushed, and after being dead for two hours has arrived in a coma, one which is of his own making as he tries to hide from whatever evil likely caused the fall. Whether or not it’s his father, who borders between loving and psychotic in the trailer, remains to be seen.

The 9th Life of Louis Drax opens in theaters September 2, 2016.
