SXSW 2009 SHOWCASES “DE LAS AMERICAS Y ESPAÑA”

SXSWThe emerging sounds of rock, electro, pop, hip-hop, electro cumbia, ska, reggae, indie rock and punk.

AUSTIN, TX – Spanish and Latin American music is some of the most widespread and popular in the world, and this year South by Southwest has taken extra care to include several new and innovative music showcases and a panel to engage those already in the know when it comes to Latin music as well as to educate those just tuning in.

The wide range of showcases will include traditional Latin music as well as musicians making great strides in cross- cultural and cross-genre fusion. These performances will offer a glimpse at Spanish and Latin sounds from around the globe. Music from Mexico City to Brazil, from Argentina to Canada, from Colombia to Spain, and all over America will all be represented as musicians blend familiar folkloric sounds with newer, younger sounds to create something that is expansive, putting a significant stamp on the future face of music. Hear raw indie rock, jazz, blues, psychedelic rock, funk and pop mix with the sounds of bossa-nova, samba, cumbia, tango and vallenato. Musicians will jump between gypsy punk and polka. Violas and accordions will be played on stage alongside electric guitars and full drum kits pumping out a brand new American sound.

Here are a few of the events and showcases for those interested in investigating the best and emerging talent from Latin America and Spain at this year’s South by Southwest.
