Before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hit the big screen in 2017, there are a few great movies we can enjoy.

A married interracial couple sentenced to prison plus an alcoholic depressed farmer who’s been slaughtering animals for over 40 years.

And because we would never dare to offer you cheesy and lame movie productions we’ve only chosen quality and highly rated choices.

These are to be released by December, the latest:

Loving by Jeff Nichols

The plot in one line:
A married interracial couple is sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958.
Why you should watch:
To see how far we’ve come when it comes to civil rights yet still remain far from where we should be.

Peter and the Farm by Tony Stone

The plot in one line:
Organic farming and the tragic life of an alcoholic divorcee farmer who has four kids he doesn’t not talk to.
Why you should watch:
Peter Dunning’s depression seem to be taking a toll not just on himself but on the farm as well, after 40 years of killing animals by hand, suicide seems to be an option. If this does not hook you on the story, what will, you know?

Elle

The plot in one line:
A successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her.
Why you should watch:
This French thriller will have you on the edge of your seat! If anything the guy who committed the crime should be afraid to get caught.

Manchester by the Sea

The plot in one line:
An uncle is forced to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy’s father dies.
Why you should watch:
Could hit close to home and that’s always good to shake things up a little bit. A guy who thinks has life somewhat figured out has to make a 360 change. Oh the things we do for those who we love! A tearjerker for sure…

The Love Witch

The plot in one line:
A young woman uses witchcraft to get love into her life, with tragic consequences.
Why you should watch:
Like retro fashion, 60s-inspired productions and “I Dream of Jeannie” humor? Then this is your last chick flick of 2016.

La La Land

The plot in one line:
A jazz pianist falls for an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.
Why you should watch:
The music is outstanding so even if you don’t enjoy the eye-candy with Mr. Ryan Gosling, or a sweet love story, at least you’ll enjoy the melodies played here and there.

The Eagle Huntress

The plot in one line:
13-year-old Aisholpan, trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter.
Why you should watch:
The nomadic lifestyle, the breathtaking views of the Altai Mountains and a strong girl overcoming gender barriers to become the family hero. #GirlPower

20th Century Women

The plot in one line:
The story of three women who explore love and freedom in Southern California during the late 1970s.
Why you should watch:
Because it’s always an eye-opening experience to see how women dealt with life in a world with no internet and few opportunities to rise, let alone three women in different stages in their lives. Great film to catch with your mom or a friend.

 Paterson

The plot in one line:
Set in the present in Paterson, New Jersey, this is a tale about a bus driver and poet who adheres to his simple daily routine while his wife’s life and dreams are ever changing.
Why you should watch:
When you might be thinking your relationship and life are stuck in limbo but that could be exactly the happiness you’ve been looking for all along.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The plot in one line:
The Rebellion makes a risky move to steal the plans to the Death Star, setting up the epic saga to follow.
Why you should watch:
To see if Disney will be able to take George Lucas’ vision to the next level, plus everyone will be talking about the film and you want to be part of the convo, and let’s not forget Diego Luna appears so we must support our fellow raza!
