Al Borde had the chance to catch up with electronic DJ and producer Jesse Tittsworth before his next show in Los Angeles on Oct. 3. Will you be in town?

Tittsworth will be playing a massive set full of new music at The Re*Up in Hollywood Sports Paintball Park’s new venue The Mansion. Also in the lineup: J. Rabbit, Huglife, Gutter Brothers, DJ Sin and Bulimiatron.

What can you expect on Friday? Well, who else to ask than the man himself! Here’s our chat on how he got into electronic music, his influences, his collaboration with moombahton and OWSLA babe Valentino Khan, and of course we had to ask about his favorite tunes.

Make sure to play his favorite tunes playlist below while you read about the man!

AB: Tell us about yourself, what kind of music do you produce and what inspires you?

TITTSWORTH: I’ve been producing more house and techno lately, but known more for Baltimore club, moombahton and some “ravey” stuff. Recently caught/enjoyed/regurgitated on IG: Shadows Warhol Exhibit @ The MOCA, I Am Divine documentary on Netflix, The Trailer Park Boys, warehouse parties in East L.A., local techno shows and BBC1.

What pulled you into producing electronic music?

I used to try to play hip-hop and got introduced to drum n bass through the jump-up era. I went to see my boy Henley (now manager to Bro Safari, Valentino Khan and ETC! ETC!) play a hip-hop set at this venue called The Edge in D.C. and it was a wrap after that. I was buying drum n bass before that but finally seeing all dance music in a proper context did something to me.

the re upTell us about the first concert/gig you attended.

Well the above was my first rave, which is probably more applicable than my dad dropping me of at a NIN / Marilyn Mason concert. It was a grimy warehouse in a pretty notorious part of town for D.C. A lot of kids on drugs and all that, and during a time where you’d have a techno room, a house room, a chill out area and a DNB and/or hip-hop area too. Had a real underground feel.

We hear a lot of moombahton/reggaeton from you (and we love it!), any particular artist you consistently get influenced by?

On the moombah tip: Munchi, Nadastrom, Schlachthofbronx, and Sabo.

You co-own U Street Music Hall, how is that going for you? Do you make appearances often?

I go back regularly to check on it and play. The last time was with Worthy of Dirty Bird—really, really fun. Always great to see friends and family and play on home turf. I go back in November to possibly play and be an uncle!

We love your tune “Titts n Tino” with Valentino Khan, how’d that collaboration come to be?

That was close to when I first moved to L.A. and connected with the homie. I was playing his joints all the time and we shared a love for food too. Many calories and a few weird sodas after, TNT popped up. I think he was surprised that I actually knew my way around Logic, haha. Steve Aoki heard it and there it went. Val’s family is really awesome. Very supportive, musically knowledgeable and great cooks.

What can we expect from you on Friday’s RE*UP event?

I’ve been in the studio a lot lately so you can definitely expect new music and an urge to get out this room and let loose for a night! Lets get it in kinfolk!

How’d you get involved with the event?

I know Erick and a lot of them especially from when Dim Mak’s club in Hollywood was really rollin’. I played for a Bro Safari birthday party once and they dug my set.

Moving forward, any new tunes/collabs – what’s upcoming for Tittsworth?

I’m finishing up an original song with dancehall super group TOK right now. Gonna do a song on the house tip and another version on the bass tip. Tons of house and techno and original tunes getting finished up now.

Last but not least, what are you Top 5 favorite tunes as of right now?

Chose 5 not necessarily on the deeper side for this list:

Perhaps less on the dancefloor vibe for this weekend tip:

Sinden x Pilo – “Heat Visions”

Moire – Shelter album

Legendary Divorce – “Make Me”

Hannibal Buress on the comedy tip (comedian)

The Cymbal’s – “The 5%”
