Supersonico – The Best of Latin Alternative in One Place

The music festival that some people are calling the Latin Coachella is finally here and this Saturday at the Shrine Expo Hall & Grounds in down town Los Angeles, The Supersonico festival will bring some of the biggest names in Latin Alternative music today and Headlining the festival will be the iconic Café Tacvba and multiple Grammy winner and nominee Calle 13.

Café Tacvba will be kicking off their “20 años del ‘re’ y los 25 años del Café Tacvba” (20 Years of “Re” and 25 Years of Café Tacvba) or 20ReCT25 tour at Supersonico before heading off on a 12 date tour of the U.S. Based on several teaser videos the band has posted on their social media, the band appears to be going back to the acoustic format that catapulted the band to the stratosphere of Latin alternative music. The teaser’s also show the band working on the songs of their now classic second album, Re, which is often regarded as the Spanish Sergeant Pepper’s.

After the release of their latest album, MultiViral, Calle 13 has been touring all around the globe with sell out performances in their native Puerto Rico, South America, Spain, Mexico and their first leg of their American Tour a few months ago. A couple of weeks ago, Calle 13 and their album MultiViral received 13 Latin Grammy nominations in various categories.

After a sold out show at the Echoplex a few months ago, Ana Tijoux comes back to Los Angeles to once again show case the songs her latest album, Vengo, which debuted at number 1 on the iTunes Latino Alternativo charts.

Supersonico Line Up

Colombia seems to have become the hot bed for new talent and Bomba Estereo will be representing the South American country at Supersonico. Bomba Estereo is in the middle of their “Respira Tour”, which has taken the band through Ecuador and some of the most important cities in the U.S. as well as important music festivals in the U.S. and Mexico like the Monterrey City Festival, in Monterrey N.L., Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, WA, the Joshua Tree Festival and after their appearance at Supersonico, the band will head off to Charlotte, NC, NYC and Miami before heading back to Colombia for the Oktober Fest and then off to Brazil for the Festival El Mapa de Todos in Porto Alegre and Festival Frontera in Chile.

Other notable appearances are Puerto Rico’s AJ Davila, Venezuela’s La Vida Boheme, Japan’s Tokyo Ska Paradise and Mexico’s Los Master Plus and Bostich + Fussible along with U.S. based artist like L.A’s own, La Santa Cecilia and Ceci Bastida and the Bay area’s Los Rakas.

Besides all the great live music, there will be EDM acts, art displays and food trucks.
