“I wrote that particular song about that night when you meet someone and everything changes – even if it ends up only being for that night.” – Lex.

Los Angeles based musicians and close friends Lex, Hoff and Métty, better known as Overjoy,  released their sophomore EP entitled Another on September 9. We talked to the three about how they met and about the new EP’s lead track “Holiday.”

ABOUT OVERJOY’S INSTANT CONNECTION

The trio came together by sharing similar interests such as psychedelic art and culture, and music inspirations like surf rock, samba, deep house and trip-hop.  Producers Métty and Hoff met within the LA club and band scene since the mid-2000’s and until early 2013 decided to merge minds and start the project Overjoy. Not too long after sparking the project idea, they met singer-songwriter Lex at an electronic event called Splash House in Palm Springs. “We all starting vibin’ and something just clicked; once we all got back to LA, we started working on music, and shortly after our first song ‘Monstrous’ came out on our friend’s label Club Sweat, and things have just been building from there,” Métty tells us.

To get a clear idea of their musical tastes and inspiration, the experimental indie enthusiasts created a playlist for Al Borde, including a sweet culture blend from traditional tribal based songs like “La Mezcla” by Michel Cleis to electronic tracks like “Mi Mujer” by Nicolas Jaar and “Lite Spots” by Kaytranada. ABOUT “HOLIDAY” AND THEIR NEW EP

Lex explained to us that writing “Holiday” was a like foreshadowing her future. “I wrote that particular song about that night when you meet someone and everything changes – even if it ends up only being for that night. At the time, the song wasn’t even relevant to my love life at all – however, the night I wrote it, it flowed out pretty seamlessly and honestly. The funny thing is that I wrote that close to a year ago, and I’ve only experienced the night “Holiday” is about just a couple months ago. It’s like I wrote it looking into a crystal ball.”

“Holiday” is the lead single off their upcoming three-track Another EP which ventures a more “darker” and “psychedelic” side of their music, “we allowed ourselves to go out of our comfort zone and push our boundaries,” Métty says.
