By Angel Aguilar | September 2, 2015

Coming out of the mixture of cultures and contradictions that is El Paso, TX on the U.S. side and Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua on the Mexican side, the band The Chamanas has been able to a create a concoction of sounds that go from electronic beats, acoustic sounds, melodic voices and a vibe that lands somewhere between indie pop and Mexican folkloric music for their debut album Once Once to be released by Nacional Records on Sept 4th.

The Chamanas first became known when their Spanish cover of Purple Yellow Red & Blue from Portugal. The Man had over 2 millions plays on Spotify and ever since the anticipation for their debut album has been building and their fans will not be disappointed.

The Chamanas - Once onceThe album title, “Once Once”, and just like the band’s music, it can have different meanings like the Spanish 11:11 which is the time to “think, act, create and share” and the English meaning of “one time”, “one chance”, and by that same logic, the music on this album can take the listener from an indie sound on one song, to indigenous musical interludes carried on by contemporary musical instruments or musical tools.

Lyrically, Once Once sings about love, falling out of love, anger and resentment, but all coming from a place of positivity, which feelings and emotions that are further enhanced by the essence of Mexican music like rancheras or huapangos and other Mexican traditional forms, but updated by electronic beats, synthesizers and electronic guitars.

The album is presently available for streaming on Spotify and on September 4th it will become available for download on iTunes and Amazon.
