No te va gustar

After playing in front of 70,000 people two nights in a row at the Velez Sarfield stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Uruguayan band, No Te Va Gustar (NTVG) began their international tour #GiraViajandoSinEspada2015 with a sold out show at El Plaza Condesa in Mexico City.

The first leg of the tour in Mexico also included performances at the Pulque Para 2 Festival in Puebla and the ‘Pal Norte Festival in Monterrey before heading off to Europe and now the band is heading to the U.S. for shows at Club Bahia in Los Angeles and New York at the LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference)

We spoke with band leader and singer, Emiliano Brancciari via telephone to talk about the new album and current tour:

Al Borde – Tell us about this new tour and the new album El Tiempo Otra Vez Avanza?

NTVG – This album has taken us to so many people and the audiences are responding to the album very well as we play it live.  We love the album because it was produced by Joe Blaney (who has worked with artists like The Clash, The Ramones, Keith Richards and others) and he made us record it live in the studio with all of us in there at the same time and I think it shows in the final recording, we really enjoyed the recording process.

NTVG albumAB – Tell us more about recording live in the studio all together, this is something not very common nowadays.

NTVG – For us it was a challenge as there are 9 of us in the band and we had never recorded that way but Joe had seen us play live and he liked what he heard and knew how much we love playing live and he wanted to capture that.  At first it was a bit strange for us, but it was the best decision we could have made and we will probably continue recording this way.

AB- On this tour you went to Europe and played Spain and for the first time, you also played England, tell us about that experience.

NTVG – Playing in London was incredible, the venue was packed and people were very excited to see us and it was an experience we will never forget.  In Spain we had not played in over 4 years, so we got to see a lot of familiar faces as well as new fans and that’s always exciting.

AB – El Tiempo Otra Vez Avanza is your eight album, how do you see the evolution of the band after eight albums?

I am not sure which way it has evolved, but it evolves, with each album we try to give it its own personality and we wanted to be different than the last one, that has always been a primary goal, we do not want to repeat ourselves; obviously it is inevitable that there are some sounds that will sound alike, but that’s the essence of the band, but we always try to have each album be different than the previous ones.

NTVG will be playing Club Bahia in Los Angeles next Tuesday July 7th before heading off to New York for their performance at the LAMC on July 11th.
