Last Thursday night, in a new edition of 107.1 Super Estrella’s La Tocada, The Mayan Theater rocked to a great line up of bands with different alternatives styles and backgrounds.

Local band, Vispera, started off the night and with great stage presence and determination they got the people rocking right away and had a great reception from the audience, by the end of their set, they had the whole place singing along with them.

Hector Guerra and Pachamama Crew tore up the stage with their infectious rhythms and energy and with a live bass player, drummer and even a tuba, they took the music to a whole new level and Hector’s messages of peace and collaboration among all the people were well received.

With each band, the momentum kept growing and former Tijuana No! keyboardist and singer, Ceci Bastida, kept up with the pace and had the crowd dancing to her alternative beats and sounds.

Without a doubt, the best performance of the night was Palenke Soultribe who put on a full on attack that hit all the senses with an amazing visual display led by an outstanding light show and video screens at the back of the stage that not only showed the band members in action from different points of view, but also displayed videos that were perfectly synchronized to the music, and one of the highlights of their performance was when a giant crystal ball dropped down to the stage and turned The Mayan Theater into an old fashion disco.  With the addition of live percussions by Clodomiro Montes and Argel Cota on drums, the addition of the beautiful and talented Michele Wylen singing and playing keyboards, and the brains of Palenke, Juan Borda on bass, “Popa” Erazo singing and keyboards, Palenke Soultribe showed just why they are one of the most sought out performers at music and EDM festivals.

To close out the show, Panamenians rockers, Los Rabanes took off right where Palenke Soultribe had left off and kept up the momentum with their hit “Señorita A Mi Me Gusta Su Style” and continued with a high energy performance, unfortunately, halfway through their show, they began an improvisation in which they sang about the World Cup qualifying game between Mexico and Panama this coming Friday, and this killed the momentum, fortunately, towards the end of the show, they were able to pick up the energy again and ended the show with a great rendition of “My Commanding Wife”

To the benefit of L.A. Spanish rock fans, in the last couple of years, Super Estrella has become the leading outlet for Spanish rock by sponsoring major shows like “El Reventón” at Staples Center with bands like Café Tacvba, Hombres G, El Tri, Kinky, Mikel Erenxtun and many others, along with the smaller scale “La Tocada” shows that have included Enanitos Verdes, Beto Cuevas, Julieta Venegas and most importantly, at all these events, local bands have had the opportunity to showcase their music in front of bigger crowds.

Along with the different concerts, Super Estrella has been including more Spanish rock music during their regular daily programming and on Sunday night’s, between 8 pm and midnight it is strictly Spanish rock music.
