Sindrome Moscow interview

Spanish band Sindrome Moscow are getting set to release their new album this summer, but this band has been a sensation in Spain since the release of their first album, Far Enough in June of 2011.

To learn more about the band and their new single and video “Ciudad Esmeralda”, we spoke with Aleks, one of the founding members of this musical project.

Al Borde: Tell us how Sindrome Moscow came about.

Aleks – This project began about three years ago, Miguel and I were playing in another band for over 15 years and after so long, we thought it was time to try something new and we decided to try a new adventure and create something new.  We recorded a demo and from that we began to get booked for a whole bunch of concerts and had very good reviews so we decided to dedicate our time 100% into this Sindrome Moscow project.

Tell us about the name and why an English name?

It’s strange because the world today is full of “syndromes” and things we don’t understand and we thought “Sindrome Moscow” was a good name for those things that don’t make sense and the “Moscow” part in English, it was just simply to go against the norm and maybe annoy some people.

Sindrome Moscow Album CoverHow did you come up with the idea of “Breaking Bad” for the video “Ciudad Esmeralda”?

We are big fans of cinema and “Breaking Bad” and we also like to take back some of the old style of the 80’s videos where they used to actually tell a story from beginning to end, because nowadays many artists just worry about looking pretty on their videos and they don’t develop the concept. We like to tell stories and we are also little weird to begin with and one day we were sitting around drinking beer and throwing ideas around about the video and someone mentioned that he had a friend who looked just like Walter White and after a few more beers; we agreed that “Breaking Bad” would be our concept for the video.

When will the album come out and will you be touring the U.S. to support it?

The album should be coming out in July or August and with this album we want to concentrate our efforts in the U.S. and Latin America. Last year we played in New York, Dallas and California and it was a fulfilling a dream coming to play here so we now want to do a more complete tour and we hope to start that in August.

The single “Ciudad Esmeralda” can be downloaded on iTunes and can be streamed on Spotify
