After the success of her last album, Postales, and numerous tours around the U.S., Europe and Latin America, Gaby Moreno came home and put on an enchanting performance at Los Globos on May 6th which celebrated women and mother’s day.
As the capacity crowd was still trickling into the venue, Marisa Rondstadt accompanied by the talented multi instrumentalist Gloria Estrada on guitar, gave a soulful performance of original songs and a couple of jazzed up covers that got the audience warmed up.
A good friend of Gaby Moreno, the outstanding singer song writer from Austin, Texas, David Garza, with his acoustic guitar strapped on, upped the ante with a raucous performance even though he was only backed up by drums and stand up bass. David delivered a sobering set that took the audience through fervent blues and jazz interludes at times, while at others he rocked as if possessed by some musical entity from another dimension.
Finally, the time came for the heavily Guatemalan audience to rejoice in their pride for Gaby Moreno and her band who gave a passionate performance that offered a mixture of rock, blues, jazz and classic songs from her beloved “Guate”.
Being that Gaby is now working on a new album, she didn’t play as many songs from her Postales album as she did on her previous performances last year, which may have disappointed some of her older fans, but they were still able to enjoy songs like “Ave Que Emigra” which opened the show, the latin American classic, “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas” and “El Sombreron”, while the rest of the show was composed of a couple of new songs and songs from her previous albums.
Towards the end of the show, Gaby invited her compatriot Ishto Juevez and David Garza on stage to perform one of Ishto’s songs, which delighted the audience as demonstrated by the Guatemalan flags proudly being waived.
