Fulano de Tal - éxitos

After a phenomenal performance at the Levitt Pavilion at MacArthur Park last summer in support of his album Waiting For Clouds, Elsten Torres is back to L.A. on Friday August 21, under the BMI Summer Concert Series at the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena to present his latest album, Éxitos Acústicos, a collection of acoustic versions of his greatest hits.

After two outstanding English albums, Hey Elsten and Waiting For Clouds, Elsten, a two-time Grammy nominee and multiple BMI award winning singer/songwriter, not only goes back to his Latin roots but also to the name that first brought him to prominence as one of the leaders of the rock en español movement in the United States back in the 90’s with his band Fulano De Tal.

For those not familiar with Fulano De Tal, the band lead the push for the rock en español boom along with bands like Pastilla, Maria Fatal and Volumen Cero amongst others, as the support for rock en español faded not only from the records companies but also the major media outlets, Elsten Torres soldiered on with several critically acclaimed musical projects under Fulano, Hey Elsten and Elsten Torres.

Éxitos Acústicos is a compilation of songs that cover Elsten’s different musical paths and his different musical projects and even taking back some of his songs that were made by famous by the likes of David Bisbal, Alejandra Guzmán, Julio Iglesias Jr., Luis Fonsi and Obie Bermudez.

For Éxitos Acústicos, Elsten teamed up with Grammy award winning producer, Rodolfo Castillo, and together they deconstructed the songs and recreated them with a completely new and refreshed approach that bring new life to each and every one of the songs, including a new song “La Vida Cambia”.

Below are some highlights of this new collection of songs:

The album kicks off with “Caramelo”, a song which first appeared on the Fulano album, Etc, and this song was also recorded by Mexican superstar, Alejandra Guzman. This incarnation of the song has an energetic Latin rhythm but still maintains the rock essence of the original track with electric guitars that drive the rhythm along and at the end we find a nice surprise as we hear the chorus of The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” which Elsten introduced us to at his performance of this song at the Levitt Pavilion at MacArthur Park last year.

Fulano de tal albumThe second track is a classic from the Fulano de Tal days, “Los Demas”, which originally appeared on the first Fulano de Tal album, Normal and was also recorded by Julio Iglesias Jr.

“Si Aun Te Quieres Quedar” originally appeared as an English song on Elsten’s Waiting For Clouds album, in which he was accompanied by the talented Gaby Moreno and recently, Spanish mega pop star David Bisbal released a Spanish version, which Elsten has now taken back and made into his own with this new acoustic Spanish version, which not only able to maintain the feeling of the original English version, but with the Spanish language, the songs evokes an even deeper feeling.

Éxitos Acústicos is an album that should be listened to from beginning to end as there are subtle musical intricacies that takes the listener on an almost visual journey, so put on your headphones and just let the music take you away.

Fulano de Tal will be sharing the stage at the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena with Argentine singer and member of Thievery Corporation, Natalia Clavier.
