Nacional Records has announced a special edition 10th anniversary release of Federico Aubele’s classic debut album Gran Hotel Buenos Aires, which will be in-stores on October 14th.
Federico Aubele will celebrate the 10th anniversary re-release with an upcoming tour with stops in Washington DC, New York, Boston, Montreal, Chicago, Minneapolis, Austin, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
Produced by Thievery Corporation and crafted between Berlin, Washington DC and Buenos Aires, Federico Aubele’s debut album Gran Hotel Buenos Aires was one of the first records to mix down tempo electronic beats with Latin flourishes, and continues to win over new fans, mostly non-Spanish speakers.
“When I started touring I realized that most people in the audience had no idea what the lyrics to the songs where about and they didn’t seem to care, they just liked the vibe. Music can do that. I grew up listening to a lot of music in English. Back then I couldn’t speak the language, but the music still spoke to me,” recalls Federico Aubele from his studio in Brooklyn.
10 years after it was first released, Gran Hotel Buenos Aires still enthralls new listeners with an intoxicating blend of trip-hop beats, breezy nylon guitars, deep synths and sensual vocals.
Aubele explains, “When we first started working the guitar was there but it wasn’t as ubiquitous as it ended up being. As we worked on the songs it became clear that it was going to be a very guitar driven album. The riffs started falling into place on top of the cool beats, the deep bass lines, the synths, the percussion. It all had this almost narcotic and sensual vibe to it. The vocals seem to be quietly suspended on the music.”
Over the last decade, Aubele has toured heavily, performing at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Fest, Montreal Jazz Fest and much more. On tour, the album remains a fan-favorite, with a rich tapestry of subtle and sweet songs that sound as fresh today as they did a decade ago.
