On the same day of their amazing live performance at Super Estrella’s El Reventón, Café Tacuba released the first single from their upcoming album, El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco. The album is scheduled for release this October but its first single: “De Este Lado Del Camino”, is available on iTunes as of now.
It’s been five years since Café Tacuba’s last studio work, and judging from this new single the wait has been worth it. Teaming up again with longtime collaborator, the acclaimed producer Gustavo Santoalalla and American producer Joe Chiccarelli, the “Tacubos” recorded the songs of the album in four intimate live settings that took place in four different cities. The majestic recording was done in front of a limited number of fortunate fans.
Much of the writing for El Objeto Antes Llamado Disco was done during their last tour. In previous interviews, lead singer Rubén Albarrán mentioned that it was done in a very spontaneous fashion without letting the ideas sit too long in their heads.
As they did on their last album, Sino, Café Tacuba continues its evolution towards a more American sound and includes more electric guitars and a heavier use of synthesizers. Some of the songs that are included in the new album are “Olita de Mar”, “Yo Busco”, “Tan Mal”, “Pájaros” and “Volcán y Zopilotes”.
“Volcán y Zopilotes” gives the name to Raul Albarran’s new persona, “Zopilote”, a character dressed in feathers, red cloth and a buzzard headpiece, which the singer debuted in the four private shows during which the album was recorded.
Although the album will not be released until October, Café Tacuba has begun to play their new material on their current tour of the U.S. Since fans have responded well to it, it will not be a surprise to see Café Tacuba lead the charts again.
