Get ready to put your feet and hips to work at the First Annual Los Angeles Cumbia Festival! Take a voyage to the roots of Latin America this Saturday, February 28th, 2015 at the beautiful Aratani Japan America Theatre.

As a co-production of Japanese American Cultural & Community Center & World Festival of Sacred Music-LA, the event is presented as part of the Aratani World Series. Over the course of six months, the Aratani World Series presents eight different full entertainment programs. The Director of the World Festival of Sacred Music-Los Angeles, Judy Mitoma, will be curating and producing the series, which celebrates the music, sounds and dance of both local and international acts.

To initiate the series, four of the will dominate the stage; Buyepongo, Viento Callejero, La Chamba, and Eduardo Martinez y Su Palo Cuero.

Buyepongo will cover the stage with their multi-members and multi-instruments and lay down their infamous “Buye Beat.” Mixing afro beats with cumbia, salsa, and merengue. Viento Callejero will turn the night funky with their breezy street sound of electro cumbia. La Chamba will put in their work on stage and put your hips to work with their psychedelic tropical sounds. And a very special treat, one of Columbia’s greatest percussionists Eduardo Martinez y Su Palo Cuero will jam out to their Afro-Columbian rhythms.

It will be an unforgettable night of intricate soulful music and non-stop dancing.
