It’s Mexican Independence Day weekend. So no doubt there will be a whole lotta mariachi playing, folkore dancing and tequila tasting going around. And if you’re in the Los Angeles area, there will also be a lot of rough housing taking place.
The Museum of Latin American Art and the Auto Club Speedway are celebrating with lucha libre. On Friday, September 14, the “Viva Lucha Libre” documentary will be screened at the celebration hosted by MOLAA. Directed by Brad Bemis and featuring Blue Demon Jr., Patton Oswalt and Dan Madigan, the film presents the sport of Mexican wrestling as an important part of Mexican culture and history. The screening will be followed by a live lucha libre match featuring luchadores from Los Angeles and Mexico, as well as a live DJ set by Mexican Institute of Sound. Firehouse Chefs food truck and tequila tasting courtesy of Brown-Forman will also be available.
But you’ll want to limit your tequila tasting at MOLAA, since the following day more music, food, drink-o and lucha libre are in store for you. Courtesy of the Auto Club Speedway, two of the most recognizable names in Mexican wrestling will be present to celebrate racing and Mexican Independence Day. Blue Demon Jr. and El Hijo del Santo will take part in a meet and greet, as well as Mexican driver Michel Jourdain Jr.
There will also be more events taking place in Los Angeles to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, which is on the 16th of September. Here’s a list of a few of the events that are tempting us throw back tequila shots with the mariachi.
